The crystal structure of the title compound comprises a [Ta6I12(H2O)6]2+ unit, two I− counter-anions and four water molecules of crystallization. The charge-assisted crystal packing is consolidated by hydrogen bonds.

The ruthenium dication and hexafluoridophosphate anions of the title salt are linked by N—H⋯F hydrogen bonds at the amino group of the substituted pyridine ring. The Ru—N bond lengths show the expected range.

In the title chalcone derivative, the cyclohexanone ring adopts a distorted half-chair conformation and the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 52.20 (15)°. In the crystal, weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into C(12) [001] chains.

In the crystal, molecules of the title compound, C24H20N2O4·H2O, form twisted planes parallel to (011). Water molecules donate O—H⋯O and accept N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming helical arrangements.
