The crystal structure of racemic dichloro[2,2′-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1′-binaphthyl]platinum(II) has been determined at 150 K. The asymmetric unit consists of a single molecule of the title compound co-crystallized with three acetonitrile solvent molecules.

The title compound crystallizes with two molecules in the asymmetric unit. In the crystal, asymmetric, bifurcated N—H⋯(N,O) hydrogen bonds link the molecules into [100] chains. The packing is consolidated by weak C—H⋯O interactions.

The centrosymmetric crystal structure of the title compound, is built up from alternating strands of (R,R)- and (S,S)-enantiomers. These strands, which propagate along the c-axis direction, are composed of homochiral molecules related to each other by twofold screw axes. The shape of the molecule is an almost planar unit around the selenadiazole ring with a hexamethylene chain as an arched handle.

The title compound was isolated from fruits of Zanthoxylum leprieurii. The atoms of the three rings of the molecule are coplanar. In the crystal, C—H⋯·O hydrogen-bonding interactions link the molecules into a three-dimensional network.
