open-access payment
1. Fee
The open-access fee is used to meet the costs of peer review, of production, and of online hosting and archiving.
1.1. Waivers
Authors from developing countries or authors who have financial difficulties in paying for open access may apply for their open-access fees to be waived. Waiver requests must be made before submission of a data article to the journal.
1.2. Discounts
Discounts are available for advance payment of open-access fees in the form of prepayment vouchers.
2. When to pay
Payment is due on acceptance of a data article for publication. Data articles will only be published once payment has been received.
3. Who should pay?
The corresponding author is responsible for making the payment.
4. How to pay
Authors may pay by credit card, bank transfer or voucher. Please note that purchase order and invoicing arrangements are also available.
4.1.Credit card
Credit card payments will be processed on a secure server provided by Worldpay.
4.2. Bank transfer
Authors must complete the purchase order or invoice payment form (see below) and quote the invoice number when making their payment. Bank transfer payments must be received within 30 days of the data article being accepted for publication.
4.3. Vouchers
Two types of vouchers are available:
- waiver vouchers for authors from developing countries
- prepayment vouchers - authors may prepay the open-access fees for data articles at a discounted rate; the vouchers are valid for five years
4.4. Purchase orders
For payment by a purchase order, authors must complete the online invoice form and provide appropriate details. Payment must be received within 30 days of the data article being accepted for publication.
4.5. Invoices
Authors must complete the online invoice form. Invoices must be paid within 30 days of the data article being accepted for publication.
5. Taxes
For all orders from the UK, value-added tax (VAT, currently 20%) will be charged. For authors from other countries in the European Union, VAT will be charged at the local rate unless a VAT registration number is provided.
6. Reimbursement
We are generally unable to process cancellations, refunds or returns of open-access fees after publication. Authors seeking reimbursement should contact IUCr Customer Services (support@iucr.org).
