Synthesis of the title imidazolium picrate salt from 4,4′-dimethylbenzil (1), ammonium acetate (2), 4-methylbenzaldehyde (3) and picric acid (5). The imidazole intermediate (4) was obtained in ethanol/CAN under reflux at 95°C, followed by salt formation with picric acid.
