Synthesis of the title imidazolium picrate salt (6) from 4,4′-dimethylbenzil (1), ammonium acetate (2), 2-methoxybenzaldehyde (3) and picric acid (5). The imidazole intermediate (4) was obtained in ethanol/CAN under reflux at 95°C, followed by salt formation with picric acid.
