Particle orientations are uniformly distributed (a), (b) over the rotation group SO(2) about the z axis (which is parallel to the incident X-ray beam direction) and (c), (d) over the rotation group SO(3). Here (a) and (c) are the bulk 3D samples, while (b) and (d) are the planar 2D samples.
