Cover illustration: The crystal structure of a new triosmium carbonyl complex containing bridging ethylidenimino and hydrido ligands is reported. A relatively high-yield synthesis was accomplished with the use of a triazine starting material and microwave heating. See: Powell, Powell, Archambeau & Wilson [IUCrData (2019). 4, x191386].

Isolated molecules are present in the crystal structure of the title complex, exhibiting a distorted square-pyramidal coordination sphere around the central MgII atom. The O atom of the tetrahydrofuran molecule occupies the apical position.

The crystal structure of the title compound, also known as 3-bromopicolinonitrile, synthesized by cyanation of 2,3-dibromopyridine, is described.

The title molecule lies about an inversion centre at the mid-point of the N—N bond and features two intramolecular O—H⋯N and two C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, each of which forms an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into infinite zigzag chains propagating along the c-axis direction. π–π stacking interactions between the pyrone rings stack the molecules along b.

In the crystal structure of 4-amino-5-{[cyclohexyl(methyl)amino]methyl}isophthalonitrile, intermolecular N—H⋯N hydrogen-bond interactions are observed.

The title compound was synthesized by condensation and cyclization of α-benzoylamino-γ-methyl-N-[2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl]valeramide in the presence of phosphoryl chloride (Bischler–Napieralski reaction).
